Topics and questions

Under Topics & Questions you keep your question stock, arranged in a tree of topics and subtopics. This guide shows how to create and arrange topics, find, copy and archive questions, use scenarios and take over questions from other sources. How a single question is made is shown in the guide The question editor.

Create and arrange topics

Topic tree, question list, scenarios and the way into the answer patterns.

  1. 1

    The Topics & Questions page

    Step 1 of 7

On the left is the topic tree, in the middle the questions of the selected topic, on the right the preview of the selected question — as participants see it. Above the list you search for text and filter by Type, Scope (this topic only, with subtopics, all topics) and Scenario. + Question opens the question editor for a new question in the selected topic.

    Create a topic

    Step 2 of 7

The + above the tree creates a new top-level topic, the folder icon next to it a subtopic of the selected topic. Enter the name — in a second language via the tab above — and save.

    Arrange topics

    Step 3 of 7

The arrows above the tree move the selected topic up or down; the indent buttons make it a subtopic of the one above or move it up a level. With Shift and the arrow keys this also works from the keyboard after you have clicked into the tree. The pencil icon renames the topic.

    Edit, copy, archive questions

    Step 4 of 7

A click on a row shows the question in the preview. At the end of the row: the pencil opens the question editor, the note icon sets the planned time and note, the copy icon copies the question into the same or another topic or moves it, the archive icon hides it without deleting it. Questions already used in a playlist or session can only be archived.

    One scenario for several questions

    Step 5 of 7

A scenario is a shared starting text — a circuit, a case, a series of measurements — that several questions refer to. The Scenario button above the list creates one; on the right you see the preview. In the question editor you assign questions to the scenario; in the playlist they are then asked together as a question block.

The menu of the topic tree

    Step 6 of 7

The ⋮ menu above the tree gathers what concerns a whole topic: Duplicate (with questions), Move to topic, Review questions … checks all questions for typical weaknesses, Show answer patterns jumps into Analytics. Under Export you save one topic or all of them as an .lpx file for another computer; Import (.lpx, .json) reads such a file.

    On into Analytics

    Step 7 of 7

Show answer patterns opens Analytics in the Answer patterns tab with the selected topic: can the correct answer be guessed without subject knowledge because it is often in the same position or is the longest? How to analyze the answers themselves is shown in the guide Analytics.

Take over questions

Create questions with an AI, take them over from Moodle and pass them on as an .lpx file.

  1. 1

    Create questions with an AI

    Step 1 of 5

The AI button above the question list guides you in five steps through creating questions with an AI assistant of your choice: you give it the structure description (PDF) and your lecture notes, copy the prepared prompt and paste its answer below. LehrPuls checks the answer right away and imports it. At the top you choose whether a Question collection on one topic or a whole Course unit with playlist is to be created.

    Check and import the answer

    Step 2 of 5

The AI’s answer goes into the field at the bottom. Above it is the result of the check: All good with the number of questions — or a list of findings you can hand back to the AI for correction. To try it out, Insert sample result below inserts a finished answer. Import asks for the target topic.

    Take over questions from Moodle

    Step 3 of 5

In the ⋮ menu of the question list, Import from Moodle, GIFT, Aiken, XML, table opens this dialog. Choose a file or paste the text — LehrPuls detects the format by itself. Preview shows on the right which questions can be taken over. For your own lists, Save template (Excel) provides a spreadsheet template. The questions end up in the selected topic and carry the tag “import”.

    The questions taken over

    Step 4 of 5

The questions are now in the topic, and the Source column names their origin. Check them in the preview or in the question editor: Moodle formats do not know some LehrPuls details, such as the planned duration.

Pass on as an .lpx file

    Step 5 of 5

An .lpx file contains topics, questions, scenarios and images — for passing on to colleagues or for moving to another computer. Export via the ⋮ menu of the tree (one topic or all) or of the question list (selected questions). On Import, LehrPuls shows what the file contains and asks under which topic to place it.
