The question editor

Everything that applies to every question, whatever its type: title, difficulty, duration, tags, Markdown, formulas, images, explanations, model solution, check and further languages. The particulars of each question type are shown in their own guides.

  1. 1

    The editor at a glance

    Step 1 of 12

You open the editor under Topics & Questions with + Question (new question) or with the pencil next to a question (edit). At the top are the language tabs, on the left all inputs, on the right the preview: it shows continuously how the question will look on the projector. Bottom right: Save — or Cmd+Enter or Ctrl+Enter.

Title, type, difficulty, duration, tags, scenario

    Step 2 of 12

The title appears above the question and in all lists. The question type defines how participants answer. The difficulty (1 easy to 5 hard) is your estimate; the analysis compares it with the measured difficulty. Planned duration: a plain number means minutes (“2”), “45s” means 45 seconds and shows as 0:45 — the playlist adds up the times, and the live session suggests them for the timer. Tags are keywords for searching. Scenario assigns the question to a case study shared by several questions.

    Question text with Markdown

    Step 3 of 12

The question text understands Markdown: `bold`, `*italic*`, bullet lists with `-` at the start of a line, tables and code. Every line in the field is its own line on the projector, too. The Markdown button above the field shows all options; the preview on the right shows the result immediately.

    Formulas

    Step 4 of 12

Write formulas in LaTeX notation between dollar signs: `$U = R \cdot I$` stays inline, `$$…$$` is set apart on its own line. The Formulas button shows examples. Formulas look the same on the projector, on the devices and in print.

    Images and image size

    Step 5 of 12

You add an image to the question text by pasting it from the clipboard (Cmd+V or Ctrl+V) or by dragging the image file onto the field. It lands as a line of its own `![Bild](media/…)` at the cursor. For its size, click into that line and choose Small, Medium, Large or Extra large under Image size.

    Answer options and their buttons

    Step 6 of 12

Each option has five buttons on the right: image for option, move up and move down (change the order), delete and explanation (why this answer is right or wrong). + Option adds another option. Click the circle in front of the correct option.

  7. 7

    Explanation per option

    Step 7 of 12

The explanation button opens a field below the option. What you write there appears after Send solution below the respective answer on the devices, in the review and with the solution on the projector — ideal for clearing up typical mistakes.

    Length bars and check

    Step 8 of 12

The bars below the options show the length of each answer — if the correct one is conspicuously longer, it can be guessed. The check further down looks for such patterns and other weaknesses: telltale words, duplicate answers, a missing model solution, a missing translation. If something is intentional, click Intentional; the hint then disappears.

  9. 9

    Model solution

    Step 9 of 12

The model solution may contain Markdown, formulas and images. It never appears by itself: in the live session, after the reveal, you put it on the wall with Show on projector or send it to the devices with Send. Insert link adds a reference, for example to a document for download. With the model solution in place, the hint of the check has disappeared.

    A second language

    Step 10 of 12

Every question can have several language versions. Switch to the Deutsch tab at the top: the fields are empty; the settings (type, correct answer, images) apply to all languages together. Fill empty fields from English copies the English text as a template, which you then overwrite field by field. Which languages are available is set in the settings.

    Enter the German version

    Step 11 of 12

Now the German texts are in the fields, and the preview shows the German version. The filled dot on the tab shows that this language carries text. Which language participants see is chosen when you start the session; each device can also switch by itself.

    Saved: languages in the list

    Step 12 of 12

In the question list, small DE and EN labels show which versions the question has. Clicking the row shows the preview on the right; the pencil opens the editor again.
