What's new in LehrPuls?
The changes in each version, newest first. You can download an update from the download page at any time; LehrPuls also announces new versions on its start page.
Version 1.15.0 — October 9, 2026
- Note and planned time: In the live session, the button Change planned time and write a note opens the dialog Planned time and note: the planned duration of the question can be changed without opening the editor — Use the time taken sets it to what the question just took — and below there is room for a Note on the question ("explain this longer next time"). Under Note on a level above the same note can be written to the section, the question block, the playlist, the topic or a parent topic instead; a yellow note marks where a note already exists. Every note starts with the date.
- Notes in Topics & Questions and in Playlists: A question with a note carries a note marker, the filter With a note only shows only such questions; Note on the topic… is in the menu of every topic. In the playlist every row — questions as well as sections, question blocks and the playlist itself — has the symbol Planned time and note… or Note on the playlist / on the section / on the question block; the wording is shown in the tooltip. Under Note on, the dialog offers all levels around the clicked row and shows below what is already noted on other levels. Notes stay in your own data; they do not travel in any export.
- Grading by hand: On every feedback card in the live session and on every individual answer in the analytics, a symbol opens the dialog Grade and comment: a grade from 0 to 100 percent and a comment, for example for open questions or an answer that is correct despite a typo. The grade given by hand takes precedence over the calculated one in all figures; Back to automatic withdraws it. The raw data export lists it in the new columns
wertung_handandkommentar. - Exclude from the analysis: A question that went wrong can be taken out of all figures with Exclude question from the analysis, an answer submitted blindly with the symbol on the answer — in the analytics and during the running session, each with Count again in the same place. Excluded entries appear faded with a marker; the answers are kept. The raw data export keeps all rows and flags them in the new column
ausgeschlossen. Individual answers are now listed for every question, also in anonymous sessions. - Sketch as an answer: With the switch Allow a sketch in the editor of an open question, participants get a drawing area below the text field — with pen, finger or mouse, in black, blue and red, with erasing, undo and clear; once a pen is detected, the resting hand does not interfere. The sketch appears on the feedback card, on the projector, in the grading dialog and in the individual answers; the raw data export and the read-only interface carry it as vector graphics in the new column
skizze_svg. Note: an export file containing a question with Allow a sketch cannot be read by versions before 1.15. - Read-only interface for analytics: The new section in the settings passes your analytics data to programs such as Power BI, Excel, R or Python — the three tables
sessions, fragenandantwortenwith the columns of the raw data export, as JSON or CSV. Turn on the interface, issue an Access key valid for 1 to 90 days, done; the defaults are "this computer only" and "anonymized". Requests need no IDs:session_id=letzte,session_id=heute,tage=7,kurs=<name>orthema=<name>are enough. Under Try it there is a ready-made request with View in browser, the section on what it is good for names uses (your own dashboards, scientific analyses, analyzing open answers with AI), and Read in the manual jumps to chapter 10.9. The interface only reads; nothing can be changed through it. For IT: by default it listens on this computer only (port 8716); Reachable on the network deliberately opens it to the local network. The environment variableLEHRPULS_API_SPERRE=1disables it. - Connection — choosing a Wi-Fi network: The cards Hotspot, Shared Wi-Fi and Mobile router have a selection list instead of the text field: the connected network, remembered networks (they bring their password along; the cross forgets them) and the networks in range, strongest first, plus Search for Wi-Fi networks again. Below the field is the address of this computer in the selected network. Set up a mobile router is now a step-by-step guide with troubleshooting; the expandable section is called Set up a hotspot.
- Recycle bin: The recycle bin is a table like the session list — with Deleted on and Permanently deleted from, sortable and with page selection; if a period expires in less than three days, the date is shown in red. The Retention period (default 30 days) can be set above the table to 1 to 3650 days; the delete dialogs mention it.
- Update notice while the program is running: If LehrPuls stays open for days, it now checks repeatedly for a new version — under Settings → Updates → Check again while the program is running every 6, 12 or 24 hours, every 2 or 7 days or never (default: every 24 hours). A find appears as a window with Later and Go to download page, only once per version and never during a session.
- Statistics count only asked questions: The session list, the question overview and the analysis count only questions that were opened or answered in the session — until now also all other questions of the playlist, so that a session with two asked questions showed "31 questions". A resumed session keeps the questions of its first part; Reuse playlist takes over only asked questions.
- Uniform dialogs: All dialogs have the same title bar with a close button, the same button rows (Cancel flat, main action filled) and the same form of confirmations.
- Read in the manual: The button on the sections Database and Read-only interface for analytics names number and title of the chapter in its tooltip, as do the book symbols of the quick help. Bug fix: On the very first opening of the manual, the jump landed a few sections too early because images further up got their height only afterwards.
- Bug fix — database file: On exit, LehrPuls now writes the data completely back into
lehrpuls.db. Until now it could remain solely in the auxiliary filelehrpuls.db-walafter exiting — anyone copying onlylehrpuls.dbgot an incomplete state. - Bug fixes: A session of your own on a supplied playlist counts as your own in the analytics and in the read-only interface, even when the examples are hidden. In the live session, exclusion and grading on the cards of group submissions stay correct after a resubmission. Check for updates names the reason when it fails. If an online join link lacks the part after the # sign, the participant page says so instead of waiting silently.
Version 1.14.1 — October 8, 2026
- First start on a new computer: The bundled samples are there right away — courses, questions, playlists and evaluated sessions, in the language of your system. Until now you had to install them yourself under Settings → Samples.
- Bug fix: On some Windows computers LehrPuls reported "state not managed for field store" on the very first start — the window opened before the database was ready. The windows now appear only once everything is loaded.
- Check link in the preview: For a notice with a link, the preview (Playlists, Topics & Questions) shows the same Check link button next to the address as the editor does — you no longer need to open the question to check it.
- Samples: The mathematics session now contains a question with negative discrimination ("Recognizing integration by parts") — the Discrimination < 0 tile and the red dot in the quality map can now be demonstrated. Settings → Samples → Restore samples installs the new state; the start page points it out as well.
- Statistics: On a new installation the period is set to All time instead of the last 90 days, so that every session — including the samples — shows up in the analytics from the start.
- Connection — Check reachability: While the test is running, the page says next to the QR code what is happening — the address the test server is running at and for how many seconds it has been waiting for the request from the smartphone. If nothing arrives within 30 seconds, a checklist names the most common reasons. The test now also covers the online route: the QR code takes the smartphone to the relay server, and the cockpit reports as soon as the request has arrived there.
- Connection — Set up a hotspot: The expandable section now contains step-by-step guides for the Windows PC and the Android smartphone, including their limits (Windows: at most 8 devices).
- Connection — relay address: The address of the relay server is fixed (
https://relay.lehrpuls.com); until now the field was empty after installation. - Connection — which network: A note above the four cards says that for Hotspot, Shared Wi-Fi and Mobile router this computer must itself be on the network the smartphones join; only Online needs no shared network. Typing a Wi-Fi name or password now selects that card.
- Bug fix Windows — projector control: On Windows the projector control view and the “On the projector” preview stayed on the join page while the projector showed the question. Both now show the same as the projector window.
- Bug fix Windows — sample images: On Windows, exports containing images from the samples could not be imported again (“image file does not match its name”). The images are corrected automatically on the first start of the new version.
- Bug fix Windows — GIFT and Aiken: A GIFT or Aiken file saved on Windows was imported as a single question instead of all of them.
- Raw data export in all languages: The Answers sheet and the CSV file now carry, after the existing columns, the session language (
fragensprache) and per language the question title, answer text, topic and playlist; the Sessions and Questions sheets accordingly. The existing columns are unchanged. - Export as JSON: The save dialog of the LehrPuls export now offers JSON (without images) next to
.lpx; a target file ending in.jsonthen really contains JSON. Until now the package was written under that name as well. - Bug fix — pausing and resuming: If a session on your own network was halted with Pause session and taken up again with Resume without restarting LehrPuls, the smartphones that were still open did not find their way back. They now reconnect by themselves within a few seconds.
- Bug fix — groups: After End group phase, the group note stayed on the smartphones (“the group's last submission counts”). It now disappears immediately.
- Bug fix — data folder: Merge of two states put the bundled samples into the collection twice as soon as one of the computers had a main topic of its own. Samples are now recognized as the same. The confirmation before Set up here no longer counts the samples as your own questions, and a computer that contains only the samples adopts the state in the data folder without asking.
- Numbers with the right decimal mark: The reveal of numeric and estimation questions shows solution, mean and answers in the number format of the language — “8,03 cm” in the German version, “8.03 cm” in the English one — on the projector, in the cockpit, in print and on the smartphones.
- Statistics: A paused session carries the paused badge instead of running in the list of sessions.
- Legibility: Areas with white text — main buttons, dialog headers, badges — are a shade darker and thus higher in contrast.
- English samples: The English sample texts now consistently follow American spelling.
- Bug fix — the right question on the wall: If you jumped back in a session, picked a question at random or from the bookmarks, or asked an instant question, the projector sometimes showed a question further down the list that was already closed or revealed instead of the one just discussed; late joiners got the wrong one as well. Wall, cockpit and smartphones now always show the question handled last.
- Bug fix — remembered settings: What a page remembers — for instance the tab last chosen in Statistics — was only saved until you first left the page. Every change is now kept.
- Bug fix — second tab: If you opened the join address in a second tab of the same browser and closed that tab again, the first tab received no more questions, without any notice. The first tab now says that the session was continued elsewhere and offers Continue here.
- Passing on courses: The export of a course (.lpx) now contains the participants' codes; an imported course keeps them instead of assigning new ones. Older versions still read such files.
- Remove samples: If you held a session of your own with a sample course, it is kept with all its answers; the course then stays as a course of your own with “(taken over)” added to its name. Until now such a session was lost together with the samples.
- Clearer messages: Network errors when checking the relay, links and updates, and read errors during import are now put in words (“The connection was refused …”, “not valid JSON at line 13, column 57”). The import preview distinguishes included and missing images, and counts such as “1 question in 1 topic” are correct in singular and plural. when no relay answers at an address; the second window shows the license suffix in its title; a missing “Trial” mark after the very first start no longer occurs.
- Raw data export: The new switch User anonymized leaves out your own name (column
nutzer) — the column is now also part of the Questions sheet —, independently of Participants anonymized; the random installation identifier (nutzer_id) keeps the rows together.
Version 1.14.0 — October 6, 2026
- Create questions with AI — a whole course unit: The dialog under Topics & Questions offers, next to Question collection on one topic, the prompt Course unit with playlist: an AI service turns your lecture notes into one subtopic with questions per chapter, a playlist with Must, Should and Could, and a group exercise with a scenario. The sample prompts now speak only of question types and terms as you see them in LehrPuls; the technical field names live in the structure description alone, which now has the column “Name in LehrPuls”.
- To try it out: Save sample lecture notes (PDF) stores short lecture notes, Insert sample result below puts the matching AI answer into the answer field — check and Import then run as for a real answer, and the result carries the Sample mark. When pasting, explanations from the AI before or after the JSON no longer get in the way; bring in a saved file with Import .lpx, and a failed file import lists the findings with a correction request for the AI service.
- Add questions: In the live session, Add questions … appends questions from the question pool or from another playlist to the running session.
- Recycle bin and test run: Deleted sessions, questions and playlists go to the Recycle bin under Settings and can be restored. Start test run plays a playlist as a rehearsal; on ending, everything created during the test run is discarded.
- Address of this computer: On the Connection page, below the four routes, you see which network address goes into the join link, the QR code and the self-test — with a choice if the computer has several addresses, and instructions for reading the right one on Windows and macOS. On Windows, LehrPuls now reliably picks the Wi-Fi adapter instead of a virtual adapter.
- Projector control: The main button of the control bar and the Space bar work in the control view, too. New are Model solution on the wall and Send model solution, the arrow keys pan the zoomed wall, zoom goes up to 2000 percent and follows the mouse position with Ctrl or ⌘ and the wheel. The projector copy shows the model solution even when the control view is opened only afterwards.
- Live session: Every question row shows the planned time; the simple view shows only the session’s questions; after revealing, the red frame stays on the question whose result is on the wall; the start dialog always begins with Must, Should and Could switched on; the playlist remembers which sections are expanded.
- Projector: Images are never distorted, the model solution of a notice uses the full width, and an image in the model solution fills the wall down to the bottom edge.
- Notices with a link: In the question editor, Check link verifies that the address responds; in the preview the link opens in the browser.
- Projector and participant app now use the same petrol design as the cockpit.
- Languages: German and English are equal as content languages; date and number formats follow the interface language; name lists sort language-aware, ignoring accents and case.
- Remove samples keeps questions you have taken over into your own playlists.
Version 1.13.0 — October 1, 2026
- New samples after an update: If a new version comes with revised samples, the start page shows the card New samples available. Update samples installs them with one click, Not now hides the card until the next version with new samples.
- Samples recognizable on the start page: Deletion deadlines, paused sessions and semester playlists from the samples now carry the Sample mark on the start page as well. Hide samples now also hides paused sample sessions there.
Version 1.12.1 — October 1, 2026
- Richer samples: The samples under Settings → Samples now show everything LehrPuls can do — Must, Should and Could on every playlist entry, a Peer Instruction question with a second round, a repeated question block, a session with English questions, group work including a saved group set, personal codes for participants, the “up next” marker and an archived course from last year. In Presenting all question types, an interrupted station rotation is waiting to be picked up again with Resume.
- Bug fix: Installing the samples lost the question language, interruptions, codes, the “up next” marker and group sets. Install the samples again to see the complete set. While a session using samples is running, Remove samples and Restore samples now decline with a notice instead of deleting its answers.
Version 1.12.0 — October 1, 2026
- Sections in the start dialog: The new Sections button opens the playlist's section tree with checkboxes — any number of levels deep, question blocks as entries of their own, with the number of questions and the duration of each entry. Whatever is deselected drops out of the list, the count, the duration and the random draw; the button states the restriction in plain words, such as “Protocols and services without Group work …”. If a section is marked in the tree, only that one is chosen when the dialog opens.
- Continue from the selected point: The menu of the Continue button starts with From the selected question or From the selected section, followed by Open questions only and Start from the beginning. From selected in the start dialog now also takes a marked section as its starting point.
Version 1.11.0 — September 30, 2026
- What's new? When LehrPuls announces a new version, the What's new? button in the update card on the start page (and in the message under Settings → Check for updates) leads straight to this page.
Version 1.10.0 — September 30, 2026
- Sections between questions: questions and sections of a playlist share one order. Move up and Move down (⇧↑/⇧↓) also move a section between questions; a new section is created right after the selected question.
- Created in all languages right away: new topics, sections and question blocks take their name (and, for question blocks, the work assignment) via the language tabs straight away.
- New topic while creating a question: the "New question for …" dialog in the playlists has a New topic button.
- Notices with a model solution: a notice can carry a model solution and is then revealed like a question — for a task whose result you show after the working time, say.
- Links: links in a task text or model solution open in a new tab on the participant devices, and in the default browser from the cockpit and the projector — the session stays open.
- Smaller improvements: the question list can be reordered with a scenario filter set; the planned-time tooltip breaks down into Must, Should and Could; an Edit pencil right in the topic tree's toolbar; a question block's scenario can be edited from the playlist preview; Cmd/Ctrl+Enter always saves in the question editor; the window can be moved while a dialog is open; the start dialog shows the planned duration of the selection.
Version 1.9.1 — September 29, 2026
- Copies of sample playlists no longer count as samples: they stay visible when the samples are hidden.
Version 1.9.0 — September 29, 2026
- Online mode: LehrPuls signs in to the relay as the host; when another window takes over the session, it is reported as replaced instead of reconnecting endlessly; the relay's reasons for refusing a connection appear in plain language. Images travel over the relay more economically.
- Review: show and hide the model solution on the projector.
- "More actions" menu in the live session, including QR top right; the projector preview shows the QR code even without a projector window.
- Important: since then the relay only accepts LehrPuls 1.9 or later — please update older versions.
Version 1.8.1 — September 28, 2026
- More robust online mode: after a dropped connection the cockpit reconnects by itself and keeps its room; the status line shows "Relay lost — reconnecting …".
- Participant app: the reveal appears entirely in the device language; rejected submissions are reported at the question.
- Courses and playlists keep their archive state when exported.
Version 1.8.0 — September 28, 2026
- Archiving playlists and courses: removed from lists, the start page and course selection, while sessions and analyses are kept.
- Analytics: clicking a point on the quality map opens the detailed analysis with key figures and hints.
- Live session: the center in three zones (step bar, On the projector, selected question); the main button names its target; projector control with paging, zoom and Clear the wall.
Version 1.7.1 — September 28, 2026
- Bug fix: on long pages, dialogs sometimes could not be operated with the mouse and lists stayed empty — the pages now scroll within themselves.
Version 1.7.0 — September 27, 2026
- A calmer live session in three columns, with a Simple | All switch.
- Projector: reading limit, scrolling with Page Down/Up (presentation clickers too), a page of its own for long model solutions; zoom in on images and formulas.
- Plenary answer live on the projector.
Version 1.6.0 — September 27, 2026
- Must, Should and Could categories on playlist entries, freely combinable in the start dialog and the session.
- Next from: playlist order, bookmarks or random.
- Question blocks: Reveal all shows all sub-questions at once, and devices browse them on their own.
Version 1.5.0 — September 25, 2026
- One main button carries the question cycle — Space to show, close, reveal and go to the next question.
- Participant ID (such as A007) for switching devices; continuing keeps the same join link.
Version 1.4.0 — September 24, 2026
- Choose your data folder (Settings → Database), in OneDrive for example; two data sets are detected and merged on request.
- Back up database… saves the database, images and license into one folder.
- Windows: install for all users with
/S /AllUsers.
Versions 1.3.1 and 1.3.0 — September 23, 2026
- Data folder for lecture hall computers via the environment variable
LEHRPULS_DATA_DIR. - The live page and the projector follow the session's question language.
Versions 1.2.x — September 21, 2026
- Continue interrupted sessions from the Playlists page; in the analytics, "Preview" shows the question including its scenario.
Versions 1.1.x — September 21, 2026
- Equal-ranking language versions of questions, scenarios, playlists and topics with language tabs; the content language is separate from the interface language.
- Exchange format version 2 — export files from 1.1 on cannot be read by older versions.
Version 1.0 — September 13, 2026
- First release: question pool, playlists, live sessions with projector and participant app, analytics, manual and quick reference.
